Our existing community of fans and creators already know about the groundbreaking accomplishments Fyat Lux has delivered in our first 5 months. Our last blog post reflected back on those accomplishments and the path we have paved so far. Looking ahead, that path leads to one audacious goal — to create an epic metaverse-native sci-fi franchise that represents the future of entertainment and storytelling.
We believe the future of entertainment will not be fully decentralized or fully centralized — it will be a balanced blend between the two. Fully centralized franchises like the Marvel Cinematic Universe can be amazing storytelling vehicles but treat fans as mere observers and offer no upside for participation. Fully decentralized franchises take the opposite approach and rely only on their communities to develop the lore, but in the process risk creating fragmented and disconnected content that may only appeal to a tiny audience.
That is why we strongly believe that the most successful projects over the long-term will combine the power of high-quality storytelling with an engaged community of fans to create an expansive universe of creator-made and fan-made content that exists across a metaverse of platforms.
The immense value of this approach has been already proven. Take, for example, the central Star Wars stories created by Lucasfilm that inspired the massive trove of decentralized content created by fans and artists in the official Star War Extended Universe. Even though this rich expansion of Star Wars lore was eventually discarded by Disney once it bought Lucasfilm, the Extended Universe still stands as a testament to the potential of decentralization as a tool to massively scale a media franchise through its community. We believe that Web3’s power to engage with fans exponentially supercharges that potential.
We know that unlocking that potential will not happen overnight. It will be iterative and require innovation and experimentation, working in concert with our dedicated community. At Fyat Lux, we intend to do that through consecutive story “cycles’’ lasting one to three months. Each of these cycles will consist of a chapter of content from the main story coupled with a community experience for our NFT holders.
Today we released the trailer for the first cycle of Fyat Lux: “The Vault of the Ancients.”
The Vault of the Ancients is the prologue chapter of the main story of Fyat Lux and a big step towards achieving our vision. The chapter is split into five story parts that will be released over a period of two months. The content for each part will include high-quality illustrations, an immersive audio-drama, and, for those that still like to read, the story text itself. All of this will be accessible through a new website designed to deliver the content and story in an immersive way to everyone — not just holders — in line with our philosophy of delivering high-quality storytelling to inspire and build a growing fanbase.
Although the story content will be available to everyone, Spark NFT (Dawn Collection) holders will have special privileges. These holders will get a chance to influence and define the narrative at critical junctures in the story. Holders that participate and help shape the story will be rewarded for their engagement (the reward itself is a surprise).
This simple but elegant mechanic lays the foundation of our evolving ownership experience. We considered adding more complex Web3 mechanics, but ultimately we want all our holders to be super-fans and feel that, for now, this approach provides the right balance of incentivizing holder participation while also providing a simple and approachable user experience.
The content drops are not the only component of this upcoming cycle. We will be releasing additional lore, running creative contests, and partnering with other projects and communities to continue to build out the rich universe and community of Fyat Lux with our fans and followers. In the meantime, we will continue to build upon the technical foundation we have laid with our phygital cards and the Fyat Lux app so that we can enhance the experience of future cycles.
